Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actor who was famous for her portrayal as the fiery attorney Teri Joseph in the Showtime show Soul Food. Contractor took the decision to study acting more seriously at age of 16, after ten years of dancing. When she graduated from high school, Contractor was awarded a scholarship by the University of Toronto to pursue a dual major in sociology and psychology. She also earned a master's degree in Theater. Contractor attended the highly-regarded Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After an entire year of auditions, she was offered the role of lead. After two weeks of performances, she got positive reviews. The play was deemed one of the most successful productions in Canada by critics. She was invited to join Stratford's conservatory, a program where only four men and eight women can take an intensive 20-week course of classical theater. Contractor's spot was assured during the upcoming play as she was offered the character in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
